Crafty young people!
Our young people in Scarborough did us proud last week when they got crafting for Christmas with residents at The Lodge care home.
We arranged the session as part of our SASH Active programme, which helps our young people in Supported Lodgings learn new skills, build self-confidence and make connections with their local communities. Callum, Drew, Ibo, Lucie, Lulu and Sam, all aged between 16 and 19, signed up because they wanted to help out.
For most of them this was a new experience as they’d never been into a care home before, but soon there was a lively atmosphere as they got chatting and crafting with the residents. Over a couple of hours, several cups of tea and lots of sweets, together they produced some wonderful Christmas decorations, which will be going up around the home.
“I gave my tree decoration to the gentleman sitting in front of me – I like helping them.” Sam
“That lady who was dancing reminded me of my nan – she was really nice!” Lucie
“I really enjoyed this tonight.” Ibo
Everyone said how much they enjoyed the evening. Our thanks to the staff and residents at The Lodge for giving us this opportunity to make a difference! We wish you all a very merrry Christmas!
