Thank you Jess, and farewell!
We are very sorry to be saying goodbye to Jess , who is leaving us for the bright lights of London after four years as a SASH host in Selby.
Jess has helped over 20 young people in her time as both a Nightstop and Supported Lodgings host. Jess started hosting because of her own experience of leaving home at 16, when she first heard about SASH. Although she didn’t need to use our services, Jess thought what we did was such a great idea that when it came to buying her own place, she made sure she would have a spare room so she could help too!
“It’s definitely the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done, and I don’t understand why more people don’t do it! The training and support you receive from SASH is brilliant and hosting can be really flexible. If I wasn’t moving, I’d definitely be carrying on hosting!”
Jess dropped by the office so we could say thank-you in person. Her last lodger, Georgia, also came along to say goodbye: “When I was first offered a place to stay through SASH I was really nervous, living with a stranger seems strange at first but within a few hours of meeting Jess I knew it would be okay! SASH really changed my mindset and if it wasn’t for them, I don’t know what I’d be like now. I’m looking forward to the next stage of my life and starting college in September.”
Thank you Jess! You have given our young people an immeasurable level of support over the last four years and we are very sad to see you go!
We are urgently looking for new hosts across the region. Hosting is very flexible, we provide full training and ongoing support, as well as a payment to cover the expense of hosting. All you need is a spare room. If you think you can help, please call us on 01904 652043 or click here to send us an email.
