Welcome to our new hosts
We had a bumper turn-out for our Host Training Session last month!
Eight potential hosts from Goole, Harrogate and York took part in our latest training session, in preparation for joining us as volunteer hosts for our emergency Nightstop scheme.
The session was run by our Hull and East Riding Manager Kirsty Clark and Nightstop Coordinator Kallum Taylor, and aimed to get everyone ready to host their first young person.
Kirsty explained what is covered during the morning: ‘We go through the referral process and discuss eligibility criteria in quite a lot of detail, as people are often worried about substance use and violence etc. We talk through the practical issues such as insurance and undertaking health and safety inspections. We also look at safeguarding scenarios and potential boundary issues. There were opportunities to ask an existing host questions too which participants found really helpful. It was a really engaging session and everyone who participated will make excellent hosts.”
Karen Charlesworth, who started hosting shortly after the training found the training very useful:
‘The morning was very helpful and supportive. Kirsty and Kallum were very knowledgeable and they were great at helping us to understand the dos and don’ts. It was also really useful to meet other hosts – good to know we’re all in it together!’
A warm welcome to all our new hosts. We’re very much looking forward to working with you!
The next training session will take place on 4 March – click here for details.
