York Community Pride Awards

The award was made for our Enable project, a collaboration with City of York Council which involves the young people we support giving up their time to volunteer for activities that help others – be that decorating an older person’s home, gardening projects or even revamping the St Leonards Hospice shop facilities in Acomb. We were kindly nominated by York House for the work our young people carried out to build a sensory garden in their grounds.

We had three of our young people attend the event – all of whom are regular contributors to Enable – thanks to financial support from Intandem Communications Ltd and Letters York. The young people even got a a small allowance for a new outfit for the evening! To top it all our friends at Heloise Hair & Beauty and Nail/Beauty Bar One York gave the young people a hair-do and gel nails!

The feeback on the evening from our young people was predictably very positive!:

So proud of SASH winning the York Community Pride Awards! Was an amazing Night and a huge thank you Nail Bar One and Heloise for dolling us up for this amazing event’ Beth

I had an amazing night. I was so grateful to be invited and unbelievably proud to be part of such an amazing experience. Thank you to everybody involved’. Jess

It is wonderful that our Enable project has received this recognition. The scheme, part of our SASH Active programme has been going since 2014 and in that time our young people have helped out on 21 different projects.
