Andy’s Story
At 18, Andy suddenly found himself homeless, with nowhere safe to sleep. Following a breakdown in his family relationships, he was referred to SASH and offered emergency Nightstop accommodation.
Within three hours, Andy was on a train to a SASH Host's home, with a safe bed for the night and a warm pizza.
That stability gave Andy the chance to start moving forward. With SASH's support, he applied for jobs, attended interviews and began rebuilding his confidence and independence.
Today, Andy has achieved his dream of becoming a chef and is the proud owner of Junk Soul Beverley and Junk Soul York at SPARK. He continues to support SASH and other community organisations.
Jade’s Story
At 17, Jade had nowhere safe to call home. A breakdown in family relationships linked to their sexuality meant they no longer felt safe living at home. SASH provided emergency Nightstop accommodation, followed by longer-term Supported Lodgings with a SASH Host.
With a safe and stable home, Jade was able to continue their education, go on to university and achieve a Master's degree. They also rebuilt relationships with their family, became an advocate for others and volunteered with SASH.
Today, Jade is a SASH Trustee, helping shape the charity's future and ensuring young people's voices are heard.
Ollie’s Story
Just nine days before his 16th birthday, Ollie became homeless. After losing his dad and experiencing a breakdown in his relationship with his mum, he was left sofa surfing and unsure where he would sleep from one night to the next.
SASH provided Ollie with Supported Lodgings, giving him a safe and stable home alongside the support he needed to rebuild his confidence, develop independent living skills and work through the impact of his experiences.
Today, Ollie has a full-time career with EE, has rebuilt his relationship with his mum and is looking forward to marrying his long-term partner. He continues to support SASH as an ambassador.
