Rebecca Van Der Arend
After going on worldwide backing adventures in her late twenties, Rebecca became involved in motivating students to take up opportunities to work and travel around the world on exchange programmes and run volunteer travel clubs at university. In 2002 she moved to York and started working at York College Student Services as an Intensive Personal Adviser, supporting students who are particularly at risk of leaving college due to social/personal issues. This is where Rebecca’s connection to SASH was born – as homelessness was and still is a key issue affecting students at College, impacting on their ability to achieve amidst the chaos of sofa surfing and finding housing. Rebecca has been a Trustee of SASH for 7 years.
