SASH young people volunteer at Community Café

Rhiannan helping at the Community Cafe

Another round of applause for our wonderful young people in Harrogate!

Last Saturday two of our lodgers, along with our colleague Amber Seaver and Harrogate host Maggie, gave up their Saturday to help at the Resurrected Bites Community Café in Harrogate.

The café, run by St Marks Church, takes donated food that would otherwise go to landfill, and prepares delicious meals for the local community on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis. All the money raised goes to charities.

18 year old Rhiannan and another SASH lodger helped set up the tables, take orders, serve food and wash up.  Asked why she chose to get involved, Rhiannan said ” I like helping people and I live quite close so it makes it easy to do.  I used to work weekends anyway, so it’s quite nice to do something else to on a Saturday!”

By the end of the day Resurrected Bites had raised £188 for a local charity.  Café Manager Jess said ‘Thank you to all our volunteers today and a particular thank you to the SASH volunteers, both Host and Young People who were fantastic and really helped us. We hope you come back to help again’.

The volunteering day was arranged as part of our SASH Active programme, which is delivered entirely thanks to funding from local businesses, individuals and organisations. If you would like to help us with SASH Active, please get in touch!
