Lap of Yorkshire Challenge

Run, walk or cycle 450 miles to complete a virtual 'Lap of Yorkshire' this September

The Challenge

Take on the virtual challenge which spans 450 miles around God’s own country this September. You can take part as an individual or as a team and complete the challenge in your own way whether that’s running, walking, cycling, swimming or by space hopper! This is a great opportunity for team building in the workplace, a get together with your friends and family or just to challenge yourself.

How Do I Take Part?

Get your team together and decide whether you will be running, walking, cycling or doing a mixture and how you will divide the mileage.

Email fundraising@sash-uk.org.uk to let us know that you are taking part. We will need to know:

  • Team name and member names
  • Team captain details including email address and postage address
  • Team photo – this can be of something you all associate with your team or a group selfie

To enter the Lap of Yorkshire each team member will need to donate £10. To do this click on the Donate button at the bottom of this event page.

Set up your team JustGiving page. You can do this by clicking on the orange ‘Start Fundraising’ button at the top of the SASH Just Giving #LapofYorkshire campaign page.

Logging Your Mileage

We have calculated the route around Yorkshire, which we will be using to update where you/the teams are virtually. This starts in York and finishes in Scarborough. The total mileage is 450 miles.

To log your miles please use one of the following methods:

  • Strava – to set up a Strava account please go to the Strava website or download the app from your app store and create an account. Once set up you can join the ‘SASH Lap of Yorkshire 2021’ club where your mileage will be tracked by the SASH fundraising team
  • If you cannot use Strava then you can use other step counting apps and devices but your team captain will need to keep a track of your mileage and email the weekly total to the SASH fundraising team by the Sunday night of each week

Tips

We recommend setting up a Whatsapp Group with your team and sharing ideas and updates on there.

Join our ‘Lap of Yorkshire’ Facebook group for updates on how far around Yorkshire you are, meet other teams and learn about the difference that your support is making.

Keep us up-to-date with how you or your team is doing, upload pictures to the Facebook group or you can email them to the SASH fundraising team and most of all have fun!

We will be updating the mileage every week from the week before on the dedicated ‘Lap of Yorkshire’ team webpage as well as Facebook

If you are hosting or would like to host a ‘Finish Line’ event, please let the SASH fundraising team know and we can ‘drop in’ to tell you a little bit about the difference you have made to local young people facing homelessness.

Thank you for changing the lives of local young people in crisis. Together we are preventing youth homelessness.

**PLEASE FOLLOW THE MOST UP TO DATE GUIDANCE ABOUT SOCIAL DISTANCING AND DO NOT EXERCISE WITH ANYONE OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSEHOLD, UNLESS ADVISED OTHERWISE.** Visit UK Athletics for the most up to date information.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use Strava?

No. We have found this to be the most user-friendly App to log mileage, but use whatever program that your team prefers. Just let us know when you hit 450 miles!

Can we run together?

Please follow the most up to date Government guidelines regarding social distancing.

Do we have to fundraise?

We ask all participants to make a £10 donation to take part. Any extra pennies you can raise will help us to continue our vital work supporting young people who are facing homelessness.
