Later this month, 18 of our Supported Lodgings hosts will be embarking on a new learning journey with SASH, working towards a Level 3 certificate in Working with Vulnerable Young People.
The course has been made possible thanks to a grant of almost £10,000 from the National Lottery Awards for All programme, and will give our hosts an opportunity to gain a qualification through their role as a volunteer supporting our young people.
This is the second time that SASH has offered this course and those who took part in 2014 found it extremely valuable. In particular, it gave hosts a chance to enhance their knowledge in areas such mental health and safeguarding so that they could provide even better support to their lodgers.
The cohort this time around come from Bridlington, Hull, Ryedale, Scarborough, Selby and York. They will attend five monthly workshops and dedicate a minimum of two hours independent study per week. Depending on the amount of study time they can put in, it will take them between six and nine months to complete.
The course is being delivered by Verity Elliot at Creativity in Practice, who ran it in 2014, and we’re very much looking forward to working with Verity again!
